We visited Kenting National Park as part of our road trip around Taiwan. We compiled this comprehensive guide for you, with all you need to know to prepare for your visit, the best places to see, where to stay, etc.

What to do and see in Kenting National Park in Taiwan?
As there are many places to visit, we will start with the things that are absolute must-see during your visit to Kenting National Park.
1. Kenting Forest Recreation Area
In the heart of Kenting National Park, we suggest you go for a walk in the forest.
Several well-marked paths allow you to discover the tropical forest and its fauna. You may even spot monkeys and birds endemic to the island. There are also some caves where you can observe stalactites and stalagmites.
Don’t miss the park tower, the top of which offers a panoramic view of the entire south of the island.

During your trip to Taiwan, you will notice that there are tons of places marked “recreation areas”. These are developed areas with parking, toilets and marked trails which lead to places of interest.
2. Jialeshuei Area
The area brings together several rocks in the shape of animals (frog, pig) or unusual rocks sculpted by erosion. One of them even represents the exact shape of the map of Taiwan.
Here you can also discover the Jialeshui waterfall.
Good to Know:
This visit is done only in a small shuttle containing around twenty people and with comments and stops to locate the rocks.
3. Fengchuisha
Fengchuisha, which translates to “Blown Sand” in English, is a distinctive and picturesque location within Kenting National Park.
This area is renowned for its unique natural phenomenon where the strong northeastern monsoon winds blow sand up against the cliffs, creating a landscape that resembles a desert against the sea.
Here the main attraction is the stunning views with the contrast between the golden sands, the rugged cliffs, and the blue ocean

Observation Platform: There is an observation platform where visitors can safely view the landscape and take photos without disturbing the natural environment.
4. Longpan Park
Just after Fengchuisha, you will have another beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean at Longpan.
Be careful not to get too close to the edge of the cliffs as the rock is very crumbly and it is often very windy.

5. Eluanbi Lighthouse
This is one of the most famous places to visit in Kenting National Park.
Several platforms also offer beautiful views of the sea and the volcanic rocks torn by the wind.
The main attraction though is a gorgeous white lighthouse. There is also a small museum about the construction of the lighthouse and its purpose, attached to it.

Unfortunately during our visit, it wasn’t possible to get to the top of the lighthouse (despite having read otherwise in some guidebooks). Do let us know in the comments below if you manage to get to the top of the lighthouse.
6. Visit the southernmost point of Taiwan
Near the Lighthouse, continue your visit of Kenting National Park at the southernmost point of Taiwan.
A short walk of around 20 minutes from the car park, most of which is in the forest, will allow you to reach a monument built on a wooden platform, symbolizing the end of the island.
You can admire the rocky coast and the Pacific Ocean.

7. Take a photo of the Sail Rock
Sail Rock is a famous natural landmark in Kenting National Park. The rock formation is known for its unique shape, resembling a sail rising from the ocean.
It’s a popular spot due to its beautiful scenery and the opportunity for stunning photographs.

8. Relax at South Bay
South Bay is one of the most popular beaches in Kenting National Park.
It’s renowned for its pristine white sandy beach, clear turquoise waters, and picturesque surroundings.
South Bay is perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and various beach sports such as beach volleyball and Frisbee. It is also one of the best surf spots in Kenting National Park!
There are several cafes, restaurants, and food stalls lining the beachfront.
9. Maobitou Park
The park is famous for its rock in the shape of a cat that is about to jump on its prey. Maobitou actually means “Cat Nose”. This rock is THE selfie spot for all Chinese tourists!
Apart from this rock formation, you will also find some beautiful views of the sea and the Taiwan Strait.
The place is renowned for being one of the best places in Kenting to watch the sunset.

10. Chill at Baishawan, one of the best beaches in Kenting
Near Maobitou, we recommend checking out Baishawan Beach, another beautiful beach within Kenting National Park.
Baishawan is known for its soft, white sand that stretches along the coastline, providing ample space for sunbathing, beach sports, and leisurely strolls.
The calm, shallow waters of Baishawan make it ideal for swimming, particularly for families with children.

11. Surf in Kenting
Kenting is one of the best places to surf in Taiwan. There are few popular spots in Kenting. If you don’t have your own board, then check out South Bay or Gangkou.
Gangkou is pretty amazing with no rocks underwater and warm water in all seasons!
In Gangkou, it is also possible to rent kayaks and enjoy a beautiful view of the bay by taking the suspension bridge (NT$20).
12. Enjoy the street food at Kenting Night Market
Kenting Main Street Night Market is the largest and most well-known night market in Kenting.
It stretches along Kenting’s main street and features a wide variety of stalls selling local delicacies, snacks, seafood, clothing, accessories, souvenirs, and more.

If you are visiting Kenting with kids, we recommend taking them to visit the National Marine Biological Museum.
It is the largest aquarium in Taiwan. In particular, you can observe whales, belugas, sharks and of course all kinds of tropical fish.

16. Kaohsiung
It is the largest city located around Kenting and the 3rd largest in Taiwan. It is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes by car from the national park.
The best things to see in Kaohsiung are:
- Discover the Tiger and Dragon Pagoda on Lotus Lake
- Climb the Sky Tower and enjoy the panoramic view
- Stop at Formosa metro station and admire its dome of light made up of 4,500 glass panels
- Stroll around Cijin Island
- Take a walk or boat ride on the Love River
- Visit Bywood and Sugar Factory, an old disused sugar factory left as it is with all the machines.
17. Liuqiu Island (or Lambai Island)
This very small island is located in the northeast of the national park.
To reach it, you will first have to go to Donggang (around 1h20 by car) and take a ferry. The journey takes only 30 minutes.
Liuqiu is also famous for its snorkeling spots where you will have the chance to observe sea turtles and swim with them.
18. Taitung
Taitung is located 2 hours away.
This is one of the best stops along the East Coast. We enjoyed spending 2 days in this city as there are many great things to see in Taitung and around the city.

1. Chateau Beach Resort Kenting
Situated along Nanwan Beach, Chateau Beach Resort Kenting is our favorite place to stay in Kenting! It’s right by the beach and they even rent out surfboard!
2. Kenting Amanda Hotel
The hotel features charming rooms with colorful decor, a rooftop terrace with sea views, a restaurant serving local delicacies, and bicycle rentals for exploring the area.
How to Get to Kenting National Park in Taiwan?
From Taipei:
- By High-Speed Rail (HSR): Take the Taiwan High-Speed Rail from Taipei Main Station to Zuoying Station in Kaohsiung. The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. From Zuoying Station, you can transfer to a bus or taxi to Kenting, which takes around 2 to 3 hours.
- By Bus: There are also direct bus services from Taipei to Kenting, operated by various bus companies. The journey takes around 5 to 6 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.
From Kaohsiung:
- By Bus: From Kaohsiung, you can take a direct bus to Kenting, which takes approximately 2 to 3 hours.
- By Rental Car: Renting a car is for us the best option, allowing you to drive freely in Kenting at your own pace. We rented our car via Klook, and it was perfect!
How to Get Around in Kenting?
Once you arrive in Kenting, you can explore the national park and its surrounding areas by renting a scooter, bicycle, or car (which we recommend), or by using local buses and taxis.
Best Time to Visit Kenting National Park in Taiwan?
Kenting enjoys a subtropical climate, characterized by hot and humid summers and mild winters.
The peak tourist season coincides with the drier and sunnier months from late spring to early autumn (April to October). During this time, temperatures are warm, ranging from 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F), making it ideal for beach activities, water sports, and outdoor adventures.
