HOW TO GET TO PAROS (AIRPORT VS. FERRY)
IS THERE AN AIRPORT IN PAROS? IS IT BETTER TO TAKE THE FERRY OR FLY TO PAROS?
Getting to Paros, Greece, is relatively straightforward! You can reach this beautiful Greek island by either ferry or plane. Multiple ferries depart from Athens’ ports and from other islands to Paros daily.
Alternatively, there are domestic flights from Athens International Airport or Thessaloniki to Paros National Airport, which take about 45 minutes.
In this post, we explain all you need to know on how to get to Paros, Greece.
How To Get To Paros in Greece?
Option 1: Paros Airport:
Paros National Airport – PAS
Indeed, Paros has a small airport (Paros National Airport – PAS) connected to Athens or Thessaloniki in Greece. It’s a domestic airport, so only local flights will get you to Paros.
The flight itself is a mere 30-45 minutes from Athens, making it a quick option if you are visiting Paros for a few days only.
Flight Availability and Frequency:
While convenient, flights to Paros might be limited depending on the season. During peak tourist times, securing a flight can be competitive. You will need to book way in advance.
Transport from Paros Airport to your hotel:
Upon arrival, taxis, buses (bus timetable), and car rentals are available to get you to your hotel. However, we highly recommend renting a car during your trip to Paros. This is what we did, and made our trip unforgettable!
Option 2: Travel to Paros by Ferry
Embarking on a ferry journey in the Cyclades is part of the experience during a trip to Greece. Traveling by ferry is for us the most convenient way.
You can just come a few minutes before departing to the port. There is no need to check and weigh any luggage. There is ample space on the ferry. And you can admire the beautiful islands during the journey!
In a nutshell, we always recommend traveling by ferry over flying during a trip to the Cyclades in Greece.

Ferry Options and Duration:
You can take the ferry to Paros from many different islands in Greece:
- Heraklion
- Santorini
- Ios
- Mykonos
- Tinos
- Andros
- Athens
Ferries come in various speeds, with high-speed ferries taking approximately 3-4 hours from Piraeus (Athens) to Paros and conventional ferries spanning 5-6 hours.
Seasonal Considerations: Ferry schedules are subject to seasonal variations. During high tourist seasons, schedules are typically more frequent. However, in the winter months, services might be less regular due to weather conditions or decreased demand.
Final Thoughts – Paros Airport vs Ferry
The decision between air travel and ferry rides often boils down to personal preferences. If you have less time, then flying might be the optimal choice. On the contrary, ferry journeys promise breathtaking views and a unique experience.
Regardless of your chosen mode of transportation, booking in advance is recommended, especially during peak seasons, to secure your desired travel schedule and mode of transit.
As for us, we preferred taking the ferry as it’s much less stressful and we could admire the scenery from island to island.
