During our trip to Taipei, we explored the historic Rongjin Gorgeous Time in Taipei. A site deeply rooted in Taiwan‘s complex history.

Originally serving as the Official Dormitories of Taihoku Prison during the Qing Dynasty, this area witnessed significant events, from housing political prisoners during Japanese rule to becoming a community hub for immigrants and public servants.

Today this place has been transformed and is full of Japanese bars and restaurants! We strongly recommend to visit this place, and it’s not very far from Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

Our Arrival at Rongjin Gorgeous Time

As we made our way to Rongjin Gorgeous Time Park after visiting Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, the bustling streets of Taipei transformed into a more tranquil landscape.

The park, a lesser-known destination among tourists, felt like an exclusive retreat in the heart of the city.

Indeed, Rongjin Gorgeous Time is kind of the newest trendy place in Taipei, which is not very visited by tourists yet!

The Japanese Atmosphere of Rongjin Gorgeous Time

As mentioned above, this place was used as a prison before. Today this Japanese-style housing has transformed into a street full of cafes, trendy shops, and great Japanese restaurants!

When the weather is nice, you can take a walk. This area is full of Japanese-style buildings and retains part of its original structure.

At Rongjin Gorgeous Time, you will feel transported to Japan, to places like Kyoto!

It’s even possible to rent a kimono. This is possible in one of the first house when you arrive at Rongjin from Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall.

Rongjin brings together more than 15 shops, including Kyushu Pancake Waffle, Kinnishimachi, Yamamotoya, Haoqiu, Xingbo Coffee, Kimono Shop, Taihuju Dumpling House, onigiri shop, clothing store, coffee shops, Kimono rental, izakaya, pet shop, bakery, desserts, souvenirs.

The best coffee shop in Rongjin is without a double Simple Kaffaa The Coffee One! Here you can appreciate many different kind of coffee served in cozy wooden atmosphere!

Taihu Dongmen – Gyoza Bar!

This is our favorite place in Rongjin Gorgeous Time in Taipei! The design of Taihy is super awesome! It’s such a cool place with a lively vibe and great service. They also serve award-winning cold beer. Overall it’s a great place to hang out.

Things To Know for Your Visit

– Opening Hours: 11:00 am until 8:00 pm
– Official Site: Rongjin Gorgeous Time
– Visit Duration: the visit of Rongjin itself doesn’t take very long. So unless you go eat or drink something in one of the restaurants, you will cover everything in less than 1 hour
– Getting there: you can either walk if you combine this with a visit to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Otherwise take the metro, the green line and stop at Guting or the yellow line and stop at Dongmen.

Our Final Thoughts – A Visit to Remember

Our visit to Rongjin Gorgeous Time was one of the highlights of our trip to Taipei. We loved this Japanese village feeling and the contrast with the rest of the city!
