However, be aware that in the summer months, there is generally much more wind in Fuerteventura. Summer in Fuerteventura is paradise for kitesurfers and windsurfers to enjoy strong winds, especially in Sotavento, one the most stunning beaches in Fuerteventura.

It is also a good month to enjoy hiking without getting too hot thanks to the constant wind. If your thing is to stay on the beach, then going in Fuerteventura in summer might not be the best time… Think carefully.

Fuerteventura, like the other island in the Canaries, is perfect for enjoying a mild and very pleasant winter. During this period, temperatures vary between 15 and 21°C. It is the ideal time to spend beautiful days in the sun. During the winter, some rain may occur.

However, they are rare, so it is very unlikely that you will have a whole day of rain.

Spring and autumn are very pleasant seasons to discover Fuerteventura. For us Spring is be the best time to visit Fuerteventura. Indeed, during these periods, the temperatures are mild, there is less wind and tourists are rare. Autumn, however, has a few more rainy episodes than the rest of the year on the island, but it is still very enjoyable.

If you don’t like crowds and you prefer to enjoy the island in peace then Spring and Autumn will be perfect. You will then have the impression of being alone in the world in this paradisiac island!

The temperature of the water in Fuerteventura stays relatively cool all year round. This is due to a cold current, called the “Canary current”, which passes between Morocco and Fuerteventura.

Peaking at around 18°C ​​in winter, it allows you to swim if you are not too chilly. At the peak of summer, the temperature rises to around 22°C, which is refreshing while remaining very pleasant.

For water sports enthusiasts bringing a wetsuit is a must though.

We traveled to Fuerteventura during winter, and we had a few weeks without any wind. It was really nice. However, during our last week, we were hit by the calima. A strong wind and sand storm from the Sahara. This is unfortunately a very unpleasant moment to be in Fuerteventura.

The calima usually last for 2-3 days followed by 1-2 days of rain. However, this event is unpredictable. It may happen anytime in the year. If you want to avoid the strong wind, traveling to Fuerteventura during Winter, Spring and Autumn would be better, although you might still get days with pretty strong wind.

Festivals and cultural events

The majority of cultural and religious events, including the famous carnival, take place in spring. This is your chance to mingle with locals and learn more about their traditions and customs.

To attend the Virgen de la Peña festival, go to Fuerteventura in September. During these few days of great conviviality, you can taste the sweets of the local gastronomy.
